Alcobaça welcomed the opening of CIMCA 2011

Opening Ceremony of the 2nd International Chamber Music Competition “Cidade de Alcobaça” was marked by the draw of the eliminatory rounds

The 2nd International Chamber Music Competition “Cidade de Alcobaça” (CIMCA), welcomed yesterday, April 10, at Cine-Teatro de Alcobaça – João d’Oliva Monteiro, the draw of the eliminatiry rounds, where representatives of all ensembles participated, in a day that was also marked by the arrival and check-in (in the afternoon) of the several musicians present in the contest.

Among the ceremony speakers, we had the Artistic Director and President of the Jury, António Rosa, one of the main drivers of the project, the Mayor of Alcobaça, Paulo Inácio, the President of Alcobaça Band and Executive Director of Alcobaça Music Academy , Rui Morais, and Andrew Bennett, the English translator at service.

Also in the audience were some members of the Competition’s Jury, including Pedro Burmester, Alexandere Delgado, Hugo Assunção, António Oliveira and Luiz Fernando Pérez Herrero (Escuela Superior Reina Sofia, Madrid).

Having almost two dozen ensembles in the competition, coming from countries such as Portugal, Spain and France, comprising the presence of nearly fifty musicians, divided into two categories (Junior and Senior), proceded, after several opening speeches, the draw for the eliminatory rounds which dictated the performances order over the next few days.
